Oral history interview with Jennifer Snell, local historian
Local historian, has extensive info on Morecambe Bay Prawner Hearts of Oak and when it was used as a fishing boat, and through to its restoration which Jennifer played a major part in. Her father was (Thomas) Morris Robinson, and she grew up in Flookburgh. Remembers horse and carts, picking shrimps, and she keeps ponies now which she thinks stems from the links with the horses whilst out fishing. Jennifer is cousins with Cedric Robinson, her father was brother to Cedric’s father Bill. She left Flookburgh in 1954/5 and her Dad became a fish monger in Ulverston and stoped fishing. She remembers quite a lot about the local fishermen back in the 1950s, included Jack Manning’s Dad. She remembers her father telling her that women should not go fishing or out on the sands because it was too cold and wet.
