Fishing Hut Postcards (Set 1)
These postcards, created by John Fox, were displayed large-scale inside the Fishing Hut that toured Morecambe Bay in the summer of 2018. Smaller versions were given away to visitors. All were inspired by the fishing memories of Morecambe Bay collected by Morecambe Bay Partnership’s oral history project ‘Catching Tales.’ John describes the project: “Given the responsibility of distilling and disseminating aspects of this rich source we have chosen this approach: we have each chosen archival aspects with relevance for today. Hannah has taken The Child’s Eye View (see Hannah’s animated films here) exploring growing up as a child where work and
play intertwine. John has looked at knowledge and attitudes to be recalled and celebrated today. In seeking ‘the essential truth’ different tales have on
occasion been amalgamated and simplified to reemerge as useful fables.” He says “Archive dipping is as unpredictable as the growth and decline
of cockle beds. Stories have found us through their quirkiness
and humour, apparent truth, joy, earthy grit and imagery.”
This project was supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund, Arts Council England, The Hadfield Trust & Lancaster Port Commission.
