An arial photograph of the Green Street cart-road, 1994. The enclosed area on the left was built in the early 1940’s as an emergency water supply for the local fire brigade should the normal supply be disrupted by German bombers during the 1939/45 war. It was used as a children’s sandpit and play area before the seafront rebuild. The building on the right with three small windows was the site of the original R.N.L.I. Inshore Lifeboat Station.
