Musselers getting ready to sail from Kilnbrow cart road to Heysham skeers, 1890’s (Kilnbrow is the old name for the Town Hall slipway). All fishermen called slipways, cart roads, because before the slipways were built the local fishermen laid stones over the shore from high water to low water for access by their pony carts, hence the term ‘cart road’ and that name carried on to include the slipways.
