Discover the Bay from the Furness Line

This series of ten interpretation panels and accompanying ‘window gazer’ leaflet along the scenic Furness Line, celebrate the wonderful cultural and natural heritage of Morecambe Bay and the historic Furness railway. They can be viewed at the train stations along the line. Acting as signposts from each railway station, the panels encourage people to explore important landmarks and visitor points in the local area.

The Furness Line Route offers spectacular seascape views across the tidal sands and passes places rich in history and wildlife. These panels are designed to be an incentive to discover or rediscover the unique heritage around Morecambe Bay’s coastline. You can also lookout for landmarks along the way with the handy accompanying ‘window gazer’ leaflet.

The project was a joint initiative between Morecambe Bay Partnership and Furness Line Community Rail Partnership and benefited from the valuable input of many local stakeholders, station adopters, Northern Rail, local Councillors and many more.

The panels were achieved thanks to funding secured by Morecambe Bay Partnership from the National Lottery Heritage Fund as part of the Headlands to Headspace Landscape Partnership Scheme 2014-19 & the Coastal Communities Fund.
