Urn (Birkrigg Stone Circle)
Urn excavated by the North Lonsdale Field Club in 1911 in Birkrigg Stone Circle but smashed by “an unlucky push of the spade”. The urn was “restored with great skill by Mr W.G. Atkinson” in 1911 (see CWAAS, 1912) and then reconstructed again according to Fred Barnes (see CWAAS, 1970). “This collared urn is reddish-brown in colour, the fabric is fine with some coarse grits, the interior quite smooth. Collar and neck are decorated with a lattice of twisted cord.” (CWAAS, 1970)
