The wreck of the Russian barque “Vanadis” of Jakobstad, Finland, en route to Fleetwood with a cargo of timber from Darien, Georgia, USA, in Half Moon Bay, Heysham, 1903. “Vanadis was built in Jakobstad in 1874, 185 ft overall with a beam of 35.1 ft and weighed 1.100 tonnes. She originally ran aground on Sunderland Bank, a sand bar at the mouth of the River Lune. Floating off the bank she drifted past Heysham Harbour (1904) and came to her rest in Half Moon Bay, Heysham.
