Around Warton Crag - Railway Views - Image 09 - passing the Crag
“Around Warton Crag – Railway Views” is another series of photographs celebrating Warton Crag, but the focus is the view of the Crag from the Railways passing nearby. This is the opposite view to Image 08, which showed the view of the Crag from a train passing on the West Coast Main Line. This photo demonstrates just how strategically placed Warton Crag really is, enabling control of the historic north-south route. Here we are looking East across Warton village, on the WCML there is a Virgin Cross-Country train “growling” its way North (it’s a diesel train !), the M6 is just behind, and the Pennines are in the distance. This photo was taken from the old Coach Road where the Occupation Road starts its ascent over the northern “skirts” of the Crag.
